What You Need to Build Flatpack Furniture

If you are going to build flatpack furniture, you're going to need a few things to make it a successful project. The four most important things that anyone who builds flat pack must have are...

1. Tools - Flat pack furniture may come with a few mini tools inside the package. But these can be difficult to use, extremely small, and quite time consuming. You're better off having a few basic power and hand tools available for your build. These include a power screwdriver with several different driver bits in different shapes and sizes. Make sure your battery is fully charged before starting. You'll also need a hammer, a handheld phillips head and flat head screwdriver, and allen wrench set, and possibly a ratchet set. These will help speed the project along and make building flat pack furniture easier.

2. Time - Whether experienced or a novice, to build flatpack furniture takes time. And, depending on your skill level, it can take a LOT of time. One thing that can be assured - it always takes longer than you originally think. Time flies when you're knee deep in screws, wood, and a 20-page instruction manual! So plan more than adequate time to build flatpack.

3. Patience - Most people overlook this trait when requirement when attempting to build flat pack furniture. But, its critical to your success. You'll need patience to sort out your parts, count them, and carefully read the instructions. It takes time to do it properly. If you're working with a partner on the project, you may find that some people have very little patience when it comes to this sort of thing. Choose a patient partner or you may end up in a battle of wills.

4. Attention to Detail - Lastly, but probably the most important aspect of all - attention to detail. You must have an acute attention to the details when you build your flatpack. You'll need to slowly and carefully read the instructions prior to starting. If you don't take the time to figure out the correct pieces indicated on the instructions, you will probably have to spend some additional time and energy disassembling it and starting over. The instruction manuals that come with flat pack furniture aren't always the easiest to understand and many don't have textual instructions but rather a series of picture diagrams. Pay close attention to get it done properly.

With these four things in place, you are ready to build flatpack furniture. Good luck and have fun!
