So you want to build a flat pack wardrobe to solve your home storages problems quickly, efficiently and stylishly.

For many years, kitchens have come in flat packs so why not build a flatpack wardrobe. It should be a lot less complicated to put together, and take much less time and effort.

When you buy your flat pack wardrobe to build you can make it as easy or difficult as you want. You can add drawers, long and short hanging space, shelves and anything else you may need to make life easier in the bedroom.

Build a Flat Pack Wardrobe

Some flatpack wardrobes do not have backs or sides, and this can be a problem as they need to be fitted to the wall square. If they are not square, the doors will either not fit or fit badly, and you spend the rest of its life forever battling the doors.

Lets look at building a flatpack wardrobe that is a complete box – it has sides, a back and a floor. This makes sure the construction ends up square.

Find the best place with enough space to construct the skeleton of your flat pack wardrobe. Make sure it is not too far from where it will be installed. There is no point trying to get a fully constructed bulky item from one end of the house to another. Once the structure is ready, stand it up, put it into place on top of a kickboard, and fix it to the wall.

While this is a more expensive option than using your own walls and floors, the advantages are they are a complete enclosed system and keep any mould or damp out of your clothes.

The cheaper option makes use of your existing walls and floor. When you choose between the enclosed and this type of wardrobe to build, make sure there is no mould or damp in your walls. And if you are a confident and experienced handyperson, the open option may be the best option for you.

Fit out the Wardrobe Interior

Once you build flatpack wardrobe and fixed it in place you can fit out its interior. You should already have all the necessary pieces – sets of drawers, hanging rails, baskets and shelves.

Make sure you measure carefully to align everything correctly. Can you imagine a sloping hanging rail? Don’t laugh – I have done it. Do it yourself is really a challenge for me.

Install the Flat Pack Wardrobe Doors

There is a huge range of doors to suit all styles of wardrobes and budgets – solid timber, MDF, plain paneled, mirrored or hard, toughened glass.

Then there are sliding or hinged doors. And your choice will be based on the amount of space there is in the room. For limited space, sliding doors are the best.

Depending on the size of the wardrobe and how many interior fittings you want, it should take between 2 and 6 hours to build.

And if it is all too hard call in the professional flatpack assemblers, sit back and relax, and it will save you all the trouble and time.
